Not all of my pieces work out and I spent a long time with this one sitting unfinished on my floor before I finally decided I was brave enough to move forward with it. The problem with this one is that it had promise. It had potential and I was worried that I was going to screw it up. I am pleased to report that I didn't screw it up and I like the way the colors came together on this one.

This Winsor and Newton Aqua Green has always been one of my favorites because it shades very dark, granulates beautifully, and is a pleasure to paint with. I wasn't exactly sure what color to pair with it until the very end. The color is Daniel Smith Quinacridone Burnt Orange that reminds me of Burnt Sienna but the color behaves totally differently.

This is a trumpet originally photographed by a high school student at a marching band competition. The photo was gifted to me by a teacher at VMEA 2025. If you are going to be at VMEA 2026, turn on your AirDrop and come find me and give me some more instrument photos to paint from.
