Martin and Lilly Acoustic Guitar

This is a watercolor painting of my husband's Martin acoustic guitar. It's his favorite. I painted it at 12" x 36", a tall narrow format that follows the full length of the instrument from headstock to body. The original is watercolor paper mounted to a basswood panel and finished with varnish and wax.

The palette is warm and natural, reflecting the honey tones of the Martin's spruce top and the rosewood details. I painted from the guitar hanging on our wall, which gave me the chance to study the way light falls across its curves at different times of day. The result is a painting that feels lived-in, the way a well-played guitar should.

Prints are made on thick, durable matte paper. Also available as a canvas with white edges. Always free shipping in the US.
