The gold palette in this painting came from wanting to see how warm the flute could get. The instrument is silver by nature, but painting it in golds and ambers shifts the whole feeling of the piece. The tall, narrow format follows the flute's form from top to bottom, and the warm tones give it a richness that the silver versions don't have.
