This sweet little boy was playing fiddle at a bluegrass show my family and I attended. He told me he started out with violin lessons and easily moved to the old time tunes his family enjoyed. There is something timeless about a child playing music, and I wanted to capture that moment before it slipped away.
The painting focuses on the warmth and intimacy of the scene, with soft, earthy tones that evoke the cozy atmosphere of a bluegrass gathering. The fiddle itself is rendered with careful attention to detail, from the curve of the bow to the strings catching the light. I used a limited palette to keep the focus on the boy and his instrument, letting the colors tell the story of a musical tradition being passed down.
